Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Thomas Perkins
I specialize in empowering people who have experienced trauma, depression, and anxiety to access their innate resilience and healing which persist in spite of stressful life circumstances. It inspires me to make restorative connections with people built on mutual trust, safety compassion, and positive regard to get results, I combine trauma-focused and trauma-informed CBT with integrative mind-body practices, psychodynamic/psychoanalytic techniques, and Mindfulness breathwork, which together promote healing on a conscious and unconscious level.
My journey as a therapist started seven years ago during a nine year career as a high school teacher and interim dean of students. While I love children, I ultimately realized my true path lies in serving others in the clinical realm working with adults. I have always been passionate about nutrition, hiking, mental health, exercise/athletics, dreams, music, art, and spirituality, and like Carl Jung, I believe that it is who you are that heals rather than simply what you know.
An ideal patient for me is three-fold: you are a person who is committed to finding your true essence, you are interested in dreams and open to writing them down, and you are seeking to love yourself and others more compassionately. While dreams can be an important resource during therapy, they are not a prerequisite for working with me. I am privileged to be your fellow traveler, and I look forward to joining you on a path of self discovery.

Are you experiencing critical thoughts or feeling that you’re not good enough? Have these thoughts started to cloud your sense of who you are and weigh you down?
I am here to help you put these painful thoughts to rest.
The burdens of tough experiences pile up and cause both an emotional and a physical toll. You may have noticed that not only are you feeling down, but your work and relationships are also suffering. When our feelings have not been sorted out, it is common to feel the weight of them and to feel stuck.
I view myself as a guide to walk side-by-side with you, supporting you with getting to know the parts of yourself that at times lead you to spiral as well as the parts of yourself that help you to thrive. Confidence, courage and connection are a few of the natural results of working mindfully to manage both what is pleasant and unpleasant.
As you learn to experience calm, it helps with resilience and continued self-discovery so that you enter into a sustainable relationship with yourself and those around you.
When you feel good on the inside, you radiate on the outside.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist specializing in working with lawyers and other high-pressure professionals dealing with career and personal issues, as they can be quite intertwined when working in intense environments.
I am interested in working with those of us who struggle with the many various issues that come from working in a high pressured, rigidly structured environment, including career and culture fit, internal and external motivation, the fine line between effective and ineffective anxiety, and managing interpersonal dynamics in the workplace and in your personal life. Any underlying relational and interpersonal issues we may have can be highlighted and exacerbated in a high-pressured working environment. And, despite our best efforts, it is all too easy to bring those issues home and allow them to permeate our personal lives.
As a patent litigator and software engineer, I have personally experienced the stress of trying to reach for success while navigating several layers of cultural expectations. Many people come away from these kinds of careers with the sense that career success and personal happiness and fulfillment are necessarily incompatible. When I was immersed in these worlds myself, I saw so many ways in which even just a bit of awareness and skills-building could have positively impacted so many experiences and I realized I am most interested in finding ways in which I can teach those skills and help people at all levels of an organization live happier and more successful lives.

Courageous Living Skills Class
If you are a WOMAN who has experienced more than your fair share of pain, this group is for you.
Do you find that you must show up everyday and be BRAVE just to make it through?
Press the PAUSE button on shame spirals, panic attacks, isolation, confusion and all sorts of unpleasant experiences that have taken your JOY, POWER and SELF-CONFIDENCE.
The COURAGEOUS LIVING SKILLS CLASS is a space where you can LEARN to:
– land in the present moment
– breathe with greater ease
– create community with women who ‘get it’
– use skills and techniques that make living easier
When awful things happen, it is human nature that we close ourselves to experiences that could lead to more hurt. What many people don’t learn, though, is how to unlock the pain and grief that is held within.
We’ve got you.
Within the Courageous Living Skills Class, we welcome you and all parts of you. For 1 hour per week, you are invited to learn simple tools and practice simple skills that will magnify clarity and calm in your life.
We are focused on removing the blocks that are keeping you from living an empowered life as well as keeping a focus on where you want to go and building habits that will get you there.
You will never be pressed to share more than you want. Your privacy is important. Everything you do talk about in the group is just for us to know and work through together.
Understand more about what happens to people when they encounter overwhelming experiences, get to know your individual strengths, the strengths of your community and positively transform your life and the life of those around you.
