Developing a Serene Sense of Self

June 15, 2022 by Thomas Perkins

Do you have an immediate family member who has or has had
substance use challenges within your family? What is the impact of this
experience on your sense of self and on the health of the family as a whole?
How does this dynamic impact your relationships? What are the best ways to
implement and navigate boundaries (e.g. when a family member who struggles
with substance use asks for money)? This group is open to people of diverse
backgrounds and its goal will be to foster empathic, kind relationships among
members while providing a safe space to process one’s feelings about the past
and present family experiences in an emotionally-focused manner. The group
will be smaller in size than Al-Anon and allow for back-and-forth
communication between members to a greater degree than
typical Al-Anon groups.

In time, the goal of the group will be to promote emotional openness, a strong
sense of self, healthy boundaries, and serenity inside and outside of the group
therapy experience.

*Prior to the official start date, two pre-interview sessions will occur to go
over group policies/boundaries, to ensure level of fit for this group, and/or
to help find a group that fits your current needs.

Please note, for those who struggle with substance use, it will be best to address
this in individual therapy/another group whose purpose it is to address
substance use directly given the unique nature of this group’s focus on
experiences with family/family member(s).

Co-Parenting Support Group

March 25, 2021 by Susan Regan

Co-Parenting can be very isolating and challenging as you navigate the new world of household transitions and seemingly bigger compromises.

Are you struggling with your co-parent?

  • Have you been trying to parent your kids separately in two separate homes?
  • Do you have different parenting styles that really create stress and conflictual conversations every time you talk?
  • Is your child feeling the tension?
  • Are you in a living nightmare where you feel like you’re never going to get away from your ex because you have to parent together?

Perhaps it’s time to join a group where you can learn different strategies to overcome these challenges — with others, who are going through them as well.

Who is it for?

This is an online ongoing group for people who are going through a separation, while learning how to co-parent where there may be huge parenting-style differences.

Discussions in the Group are topic-oriented and topic-suggested. I will be presenting both psychological themes and strategies to deal with difficult co-parenting situations (e.g., Are/were you married to a narcissist? What if you hate your ex’s extended family? Is your parenting style different and are you seeing those differences making your kids feel insecure? How do you deal with your kid not wanting to go to your ex’s home?).

Courageous Living Skills Class

March 19, 2021 by Wendy Taylor

If you are a WOMAN who has experienced more than your fair share of pain, this group is for you.

Do you find that you must show up everyday and be BRAVE just to make it through?

Press the PAUSE button on shame spirals, panic attacks, isolation, confusion and all sorts of unpleasant experiences that have taken your JOY, POWER and SELF-CONFIDENCE.

The COURAGEOUS LIVING SKILLS CLASS is a space where you can LEARN to:

– land in the present moment

– breathe with greater ease

– create community with women who ‘get it’

– use skills and techniques that make living easier

When awful things happen, it is human nature that we close ourselves to experiences that could lead to more hurt. What many people don’t learn, though, is how to unlock the pain and grief that is held within.

We’ve got you.

Within the Courageous Living Skills Class, we welcome you and all parts of you. For 1 hour per week, you are invited to learn simple tools and practice simple skills that will magnify clarity and calm in your life.

We are focused on removing the blocks that are keeping you from living an empowered life as well as keeping a focus on where you want to go and building habits that will get you there.

You will never be pressed to share more than you want. Your privacy is important. Everything you do talk about in the group is just for us to know and work through together.

Understand more about what happens to people when they encounter overwhelming experiences, get to know your individual strengths, the strengths of your community and positively transform your life and the life of those around you.

NEXT Step?

Call or email our office to schedule an intake chat. This gives Wendy and Marissa an opportunity to get to know you better, to answer any questions you have about the group and will also serve as an opportunity to support you with preparing for the learning and growing experience ahead.

Brianna Brazle

September 9, 2020 by Brianna Brazle

Hello I am Brianna!

This is where I’m supposed to write about myself and assure you through my extensive experience and education that “Brianna is absolutely qualified to help me change my life.” Well, I am sure all of that will be listed somewhere in this profile :). I prefer to be more authentic, not focus so much on the things that make me acceptable to society’s standards but instead focus on one of my greatest assets as a therapist. That asset is something you have as well – humanness and understanding. Because once we peel back the layers, the years of education, the books read, certifications received – once that’s all stripped back, what ultimately connects us is our ability to understand each other on a human level. Through this connection, change is sparked.

“The only permission, the only validation, and the only opinion that matters in our quest for greatness is our own.” –Dr. Steve Maraboli

My Values and Approach

I view therapy as a road trip, wherein you are the driver. My role is, passenger and I help you to reach your destination. Sometimes that’s providing guidance through google maps, others it’s finding the best tunes to listen to on the journey, sometimes it’s making sure you stay awake so we don’t crash, and others just being there so you don’t feel alone. My goal and role is to help you reach your destination. It won’t always be an easy journey but as long as your willing to keep your foot on the petals I’ll be there to support!

I truly believe in meeting you were you are and through this leveled connection we can work together to build on your strengths to reach your desired heights of fulfillment.

Kat Zwick

July 6, 2020 by Kat Zwick

Ride the wave…

Ride the wave is an expression that reminds us that sorrow, pain, happiness, triggers, relapses, slips, high highs, low lows, and everything in-between need not be waves that consume us, overtake us, define us, or drown us; rather we can gently and skillfully navigate these waves, from the surface, as if on a psychological or spiritual surfboard, with the help of others, our Wise Mind, our Higher Power, or Self, or Source keeping us afloat.

Land Acknowledgment

Our offices in Santa Cruz sit on the unceded territory of the Awaswas, one of the eight divisions of the Ohlone people. Their descendants are known today as the Amah-Mutsun Tribal Band. You can learn more about their conservation efforts that continue to this day and consider a donation HERE. Our offices in Oakland sit on the unceded territory of the Bay Miwok, also of the Ohlone people. Some of their descendants are members of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe.

We honor the history that precedes us, we are grateful for the opportunity to work and live here and offer healing and relationship to clients and each other, on these indigenous peoples’ traditional homelands.

Please join us in taking a moment of silence to pay respect to all Ohlone people past and present.

IN RECOVERY, ABOVE ALL, WE HAVE OPTIONS, AND REMEMBERING WE HAVE OPTIONS HELPS US RIDE THE WAVE.
