Dating Group: Getting Back Out There with Confidence!

March 30, 2021 by Susan Regan

Figuring out how to find a new relationship (that actually works) is going to be a bit of a learning curve in and of itself. So, why not do it around others who are doing the same thing? Not only will you get some relatable support from your groupmates, but you’ll probably also share a laugh or two with others who are fumbling into this new place alongside you! I really want you to have a successful relationship, so let’s tackle this together!

Who is this for?

If you’ve been thinking about your dating career and how you are going to help yourself through the process, this group is for you.

Dating can be such an intimidating process — especially if you’ve been in a relationship for so long and haven’t gotten yourself out there in decades.

Are you finding yourself still too attached to memories or fantasies of your ex? Maybe they’ll change-maybe you’ll go back-maybe you’ll just listen to a sad love song or watch a love story and wish that you could go back instead of move forward. Maybe you were angry, felt like things were unfair, or you wanted to move on for a long time — but now that you’re here, it’s hard to be proactive about meeting a new someone. You may find that you’re set in your ways. Because you haven’t dated for years, perhaps you don’t know where to start, and maybe, you’re even embarrassed to show your dating profile to anyone.

Are you finding it difficult to meet the right person?

Maybe it’s even just the littlest thing … like knowing what kind of text response is going to get more engagement, instead of getting you ghosted? Are you having a hard time not taking things personally? And, what if things start going right; are you even ready for intimacy?

This is a group exclusively about looking where you’ve been, the relationship trauma that has occurred, and how you are now going to get behind moving forward in your life.

I have been a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist since 1994 and for over 25 years, I have had a clinical practice and served hundreds of couples and individuals of all ages, and from many different backgrounds, lifestyles, cultures. I have led groups that have helped people find the balance between their own fulfillment and connection to each other.

As a trained mediator, I also provide co-parenting counseling and mediation with couples and parents, who are in the process of separating. I facilitate groups in both Berkeley and San Francisco in the areas of separation and divorce and couples, family and relationship therapy.

Understanding that people are often blocked in life, due to trauma, I also help these clients by using the EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) technique, and other somatic-based therapies. In addition, I have in-depth training in Narrative, Family Systems, Attachment-Based Therapy and Enneagram.

Enneagram tests are an excellent way to discover more of what your personality type does and how you connect with another person’s strengths and weaknesses whether it be work, friendships, home, or intimate relationships.

I specialize in many creative methods to work with a variety of clients.

Relational Growth Group for Bodies of Culture

January 22, 2021 by Karla Amanda Brown

For adults who are ready to go from internal turmoil and suffering as the result of old wounds to thriving with internal safety and social confidence!

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to better understand your inner world and how to:

– slow down or completely stop being triggered & high jacked

– quiet the inner critic or inner perfectionist that sabotages your greatest efforts

– release yourself from the grip of stuck, stale and painful relationship patterns

This group uses Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a foundation for teaching about parts of your personality and exploring how they interact with each other. Group members will learn to recognize and identify those emotions, thoughts and reactions that create internal and external challenges throughout life. Sessions will include getting to know those parts of ourselves, and learning how to access the core qualities of a Self that is present within all of us.

With others, you will have an opportunity to:

– Work through discomfort and anxiety so that you can achieve the level of closeness and intimacy you desire

– Courageously connect with vulnerability and anger rather than engaging in avoidance and repression

– Experiment with expression of Self which will help you to increase assertiveness, self-confidence and calm

– Practice welcoming all of your parts while increasing presence, awareness and mindfulness

IFS is a powerful tool that can help you achieve greater well-being and balance by not only becoming more aware of these internal patterns, but by going toward them with curiosity and compassion to better understand and heal them.

Get to know your Self better, understand why you act the way you do, and develop a toolkit you can use to empower your sense of courage and creativity.

NEXT Step? Email our office to schedule a brief phone chat with leaders Karla. We would be delighted to answer any questions you have about the group and support you with preparing for the learning and growing experience ahead.

Perry Clark

November 5, 2020 by Perry Clark

The question is: What is tangling you up? Are you tangled up in anxiety, sadness,& doubt? Are you held by insecurity &uncertainty? Are you slowed by feeling disconnected & getting caught unaware? Have the paths become overgrown and you can’t find or are questioning the sign before you? Growth is about using and building new skills, all of which take time, and nurturing. Growth is about finding solutions that apply to the situation and not just the general world. Both of these are elements of the hope. Hope is something we need to move us through the day, and it does require updating.

We don’t live in isolation, which means it’s very easy to get tangled up and mired in things, situations, people, and feelings that keep us from growing. We need to understand them, so we can cut them away or down, to allow you to move forward with new skills and hope for living.

We don’t learn to tie our shoes or hold a fork instantly. It takes care from those around us to do so, and it isn’t easy. It’s a skill I hope we can find together.
