Dating Group: Getting Back Out There with Confidence!

March 30, 2021 by Susan Regan

Figuring out how to find a new relationship (that actually works) is going to be a bit of a learning curve in and of itself. So, why not do it around others who are doing the same thing? Not only will you get some relatable support from your groupmates, but you’ll probably also share a laugh or two with others who are fumbling into this new place alongside you! I really want you to have a successful relationship, so let’s tackle this together!

Who is this for?

If you’ve been thinking about your dating career and how you are going to help yourself through the process, this group is for you.

Dating can be such an intimidating process — especially if you’ve been in a relationship for so long and haven’t gotten yourself out there in decades.

Are you finding yourself still too attached to memories or fantasies of your ex? Maybe they’ll change-maybe you’ll go back-maybe you’ll just listen to a sad love song or watch a love story and wish that you could go back instead of move forward. Maybe you were angry, felt like things were unfair, or you wanted to move on for a long time — but now that you’re here, it’s hard to be proactive about meeting a new someone. You may find that you’re set in your ways. Because you haven’t dated for years, perhaps you don’t know where to start, and maybe, you’re even embarrassed to show your dating profile to anyone.

Are you finding it difficult to meet the right person?

Maybe it’s even just the littlest thing … like knowing what kind of text response is going to get more engagement, instead of getting you ghosted? Are you having a hard time not taking things personally? And, what if things start going right; are you even ready for intimacy?

This is a group exclusively about looking where you’ve been, the relationship trauma that has occurred, and how you are now going to get behind moving forward in your life.

Ayala Kalisher

My approach is somatic, holistic and experiential. This means our work together is not just sitting and talking about what has been or how you want things to be. Working holistically means I recognize the connection between mind, body, spirit and environment. Working in any one of these realms means we’re working with all of them. Working somatically means will explore the wisdom of your body as a gateway to your emotions and the wealth of information about yourself that sometimes the mind can obscure.

All my work, whether with individuals or couples, based in Attachment Theory. Attachment Theory is a well-researched approach to understanding our lifelong development and relationships. We all develop strategies of getting our needs met early in life based on how available, absent and attuned our caregivers are. These early strategies create the blueprint for how we are in our adult relationships and the often unconscious strategies we use with those closest to us. Often what were useful strategies no longer serve us in our adult life and it is now time to learn new ways to move through the world.

Many people never get to see models of what a secure, functioning relationship can look like. Learning what it takes to truly be in one another’s care is a process, no matter what your individual attachment style is.

My work is informed by my training in Hakomi; a somatic and mindfulness approach to psychotherapy. In this approach, we get curious about your felt experience of the world and the ways in which your have organized your way of being to adapt to your experiences. We then explore how to create reparative healing experiences in the room together.

My work with couples is influenced by my training in PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy) and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Both approaches are attachment based and all about supporting you and your partner(s) in creating a secure, functioning relationship.

Pandemic Support Group for Individuals – Affordable Expert Therapy

July 3, 2020 by Michelle Joy

Feeling anxious about COVID?
Struggling with work-at-home boundaries?
Feeling trapped at home?

Join our support group to commiserate, learn coping strategies, meet other like-minded folks, and be less alone.

Groups will be conducted by videoconference and you can join from any location in California.  Group size will be limited to 8 people so that everyone has a chance to participate and get to know one another. The group leader is Dr. Robert Solley who has over 25 years of experience in the mental health field, is an associate of the renowned Couples Institute, and practices in San Francisco.

We ask for pre-paid commitments in four-week segments in order to maintain group consistency. So, once you join, if you’ve gotten enough out of the group in a month you may stop. But you may also continue as long as you like in four-week increments. This allows for some flexibility for people to come and go but preserves a core group and sense of continuity.

Groups are 1 hour each and start Saturday July 11th at 9am.

Elizabeth McGinnis

I help individuals and couples heal from traumatic or troubling relationships and events. It is easy to get stuck in a repeating and harmful pattern with the people around you. Together we find ways and options to create a healthier and more satisfying path forward.
I’ve worked in technical and business environments for 12 years before becoming a therapist. Right now, working from home with children or with a partner is scary, irritating, difficult, and rewarding. I use my experience to help you navigate all the struggles, worries, and concerns that come from working and living in this demanding world.
